Rubber matting for stables and Benefits

Rubber matting for stables And Benefits:

Many horse mats can benefit from the addition of rubber stable mats onto the flooring of a stable. Adding an extra layer to the floor can be a boost to a horse’s health, from adding extra warmth to the stable to aiding in the rehabilitation process from injury.

You may have heard about stable mats and some of the benefits of using them. But are stable mats a financially viable asset? Or are they a waste of money? Well, in this article we aim to answer these questions. So, read on to find out about all of the various benefits of installing stable matting. See exactly how the installation can benefit both your horse and yourself.
Health
One of the best benefits of rubber matting is the positive effect it can have on the health of your horse. Remember that the solid concrete floor of a stable is not the most comfortable surface for your horse to stand on. Imagine you were on your feet all day, you would want something with a bit more give in it.

This becomes even more important when you consider the delicate bone structure of a horse’s hoof and legs. In fact, if a horse spends many years in a stable with a concrete floor and no matting, then the effects can be striking. The hoof may act as a shock absorbed, but it is not immune to damage. Adding a stable mat or two to the floor will go some way to ensuring your horse stays in peak physical condition away from the intensity of training. The softer flooring will be far more forgiving.

Providing they are inserted correctly and offer the correct amount of padding, stable mats can help with issues such as torn ligament damage, tendinitis and other general wear and tear of the joints. The extra level of protection offered by stable mats can help curb the occurrence of injury significantly. Similarly, a stable mat can also have a very positive effect on horses that suffer from arthritis.

Insulation
As well as the health concerns that can be aided by Rubber matting, it can also help benefit the horse in winter. When the weather is cold and the winds are howling outside, there is nothing more important than ensuring your horse is comfortable and not too cold.

Stable matting can add an extra layer of insulation to the stable floor and will also cut out the need for bedding which can become dirty and infected during the wetter winter months. You wouldn’t want to spend the winter walking around on cold concrete floors would you? No, thought not.

Saving you time and money
It is estimated that stable matting can cut the cost of bedding by half and the most efficient stable mats can actually cut it by almost two-thirds. The main reason for this is the fact that the use of stable mats will allow you to reduce the amount of bedding you use by 80%. By only using 20% of the bedding you would otherwise have to, you are clearing out a large amount of dust that would otherwise be inside the stable. As you will know dust causes respiratory diseases in horses so the less dust you have the healthier your horse will be. Another benefit to only using 20% of the bedding is yours, you will save loads of money because all you need is enough bedding to cover the horse mats and absorb any waste.

And now time. rubber matting can save you plenty of time as most of them are non-porous, this means that any waste is not absorbed into the floor of the stable. Instead it is collected on the mat. This makes the mucking out process a whole lot easier, and will help you to clear away dirt and bacteria far more quickly than with a conventional stable floor. When waste collects on the mat, it can easily be swept away, which makes those early morning alarm calls so much easier to bear.

A Rubber Mat Can Easily Fix

Find Out How A Rubber Mat Can Easily Fix Your Ugly Wall Vent Problem
Depending on the age of your home, it may have some features that were useful or practical when it was originally built, but don't really make sense anymore. While such features can add that bit of trendy, vintage throwback to a space, sometimes they are nothing more than an inconvenient eyesore! If your home is anything like Curb Alert's Tami, you know what I'm talking about. One wall in her home has an element to it that has a very important purpose, but isn't the prettiest thing to look at: an air vent. And I'm not talking about a small register that no one would ever really notice either — this thing is big! I can understand why it would bother her, especially since it's a part of her home and it detracts from her wonderful gallery wall.

The Culprit

As you can see, this isn't the most attractive thing to have in a space. It's fairly large in size (especially when you compare it to other vents), and because it's a vital element for airflow in the home, it isn't going anywhere.

The Fix

You may be looking at this photo and thinking to yourself, "I don't get it. What part of this picture is the key to solving Tami's ugly vent problem?" The answer, my friend, is the black rubber matting! That's right! With a bit of creative thinking, she was able to figure out a super cheap and easy way to cover up the register that would not hinder the way it functions while also making it easier on the eyes.

Before

To recap, here is what Tami's gallery wall looked like before her hit of DIY genius.

The One And Only Step

She simply took the rubber mat off her front porch and tidied it up with a bit of tire cleaner. She then installed two screws over the register and hung the mat on them!

How to Choose the Right Rubber Mats

How to Choose the Right Yoga Rubber Mat

Fifteen years ago, there was only one basic type of yoga mat  made of PVC and noted for its stickiness and your only choice was whether to buy purple or blue. Now, there’s a yoga mat to suit every priority and preference.
Beyond a color and pattern that make your heart go putter-patter, your yoga mat needs to keep you stable in your poses; and it needs to be tolerable and portable, yet comfy and cushy. You may also want your mat to be environmentally friendly. These aspects of your mat's personality are all affected by how the mat is made: how thick it is, what it's made of, and its surface texture.
Use this guide to help you find a yoga mat you can be blissfully happy with — one that suits your practice, priorities, lifestyle, values and budget. No matter what the stores tell you, that’s the best yoga mat for you!

1. Thickness
Why it’s important: The thickness of your yoga mat has a lot to do with how comfortable it is — too thin, and your knee may get banged up during crescent lunge. The tradeoff is that thick yoga mats (some as thick as 1/4 inch) can make it harder for you to feel a strong connection to the floor, making you more wobbly in Tree Pose, for example.
Options: A standard yoga mat is about 1/8 inch thick, while the thickest swell up to 1/4 inch. There are also wafer-thin yoga mats, often billed as “travel yoga mats,” that are a mere 1/16 inch thick. They fold easily and don’t weigh much, making them a cinch to fit in a suitcase.
Basic buying guide: Consider how much room you have to stow your yoga mat, how important portability is, and where your sweet spot is on comfort versus being able to feel a direct connection to the floor. If you're short on storage space, have a long schlep to the studio, and like the fel of just a little padding, opt for a standard-depth mat, in the 1/8 inch range.
If you don’t mind carrying and storing a little more heft for the sake of more cushioning, consider a premium yoga mat that's about 1/4 inch thick. And if you absolutely must be able to pack your yoga mat in a suitcase or carry-on, get yourself a fordable travel yoga mat in the 1/16 inch range.

2. Material
Why it’s important: The material your yoga mat is made of dictates its texture, stickiness, eco-friendliness and sponginess (how much it yields to pressure), and how it wears over time.
Options: Most standard yoga mats are made of PVC, otherwise known as vinyl. Newer, more earth-friendly options include natural and recycled rubber, jute, and organic cotton or natural cotton (which means the fabric is not treated with synthetic finishes during manufacturing).
Basic buying guidelines: If you're allergic to latex, avoid yoga mats made of natural rubber. If you want to stick with the tried and true sticky mat, choose a yoga mat made out of PVC, which can endure your use and abuse for more than a decade. Sponginess can vary widely with different blends of materials, but in general, PVC has the most "give" of any yoga mat material; jute and cotton have the least.
Beyond these fundamentals, read on and let your other priorities — texture, stickiness and eco-friendliness — be your guide.

3. Texture
Why it’s important: The texture of your yoga mat dictates how much traction it provides. Like stickiness, texture affects how much slipping and sliding you do. It provides physical barriers to sliding (whereas stickiness relies on suction). And because texture affects the way a yoga mat feels, it’s also a component of overall comfort.
If you’re a Princess and the Pea type, any bumpy texture will likely aggravate you in savasana. Texture can be either man made (a pattern of raised bumps, for example) or dictated by the materials — jute yoga mats have an organic roughness to them, while PVC yoga mats, though slightly textured, have a softer feel.
Options: There’s a yoga mat texture to suit every whim — from completely smooth to downright rough.
Basic buying guidelines: If you’re looking for a yoga mat that prevents slipping and you’d like to avoid PVC mats (the traditional sticky yoga mats), look for a rubber, jute or cotton yoga mat that has a raised, tactile pattern. The added grip the raised texture provides can help you stay put no matter how sweaty or vigorous your practice gets.
If smoothness is of prime importance to you, a PVC yoga mat is the way to go. And if you relish stickiness but are curious about the newer, more earth-friendly options, test drive a few before you buy. Some eco-friendly yoga mats may surprise you with how much traction they provide even though they don’t have the traditional “sticky” feel. 4. Stickiness
Why it’s important: A sticky yoga mat keeps you from sliding all over the place and helps you maintain your alignment as you move from one pose to another, as well as when you hold poses for several seconds.
Options: PVC yoga mats have the highest sticky factor.
Basic buying guide: If you need help staying put in your poses but you bristle at the thought of practicing on a yoga mat with a raised texture, a PVC yoga mat is probably your best bet. Just remember that these yoga mats are only sticky when they are clean. If you buy a PVC yoga mat, wash it before you use it and again whenever you notice your hands sliding forward in downward dog.

5. Eco-friendliness
Why it’s important: As yogis, we hold dear the tenet of memsahib, or non-violence. That makes practicing on a yoga mat that will ultimately end up clogging a landfill for decades to come troublesome.
Options: Earth-friendly yoga mats are typically made from natural or recycled rubber. These yoga mats may also include natural materials, such as jute or organic cotton.
Basic buying guide: If Eco-friendliness is important to you, avoid yoga mats made of PVC (the traditional sticky mat), which does not break down in landfills and is difficult and costly to recycle. Rubber, jute and cotton yoga mats, while available in a range of thicknesses, tend to be thicker and slicker than PVC mats. You can get a yoga mat that's Eco-friendly, has a thickness that meets your needs for comfort and portability, and has a texture (such as a raised geometric pattern) that prevents slippage.

6. Price range
Typically, a basic 1/8 inch thick, plain solid-color PVC sticky yoga mat will be toward the low end of the price range. From there you may pay more for patterns, designs or logos; premium thickness; antimicrobial treatments; and cool textures, especially raised tactile patterns. Eco-friendly yoga mats tend to be toward the high end of the price range.

How to Install Interlocking Rubber Tile Flooring in 12 Easy Steps!

How to Install Interlocking Rubber playground Tiles Flooring in 12 Easy Steps!

Interlocking rubber playground tiles flooring is one of the most versatile flooring solutions on the market. Commercial gyms utilize the tiles for their shock-absorbing properties. Playground floors are often covered in interlocking tiles, taking advantage of the tile’s outdoor durability. The rubber tiles can even be found around the perimeter of an ice skating rink where the draining ability of the tiles is essential.
Now each and every application may take advantage of a different function of these multi-faceted tiles, but they all value the ease of setting up the interlocking rubber tile flooring. Virtually anyone can assemble the tiles, provided you can manage the weight of a single rubber tile. Want to know how to install rubber tiles? Just follow my lead, and you’ll be walking atop your new, cushion flooring in no time!
Tools and Materials Needed:
  • Interlocking tiles – Contact your friendly, neighborhood Rubber Flooring Expert who can assist you with the right quantity for your area.
  • Plastic connector pins
  • Rubber mallet
  • Utility knife
  • Straight edge (e.g., ruler, carpenter’s square)
  • Chalk
Preparation:
  • Make sure the sub floor is structurally sound and relatively level. Concrete, wood, asphalt and compacted dirt are all acceptable surfaces for rubber tiles.
  • Use a broom or vacuum to clear the sub floor of foreign matter like dust, dirt and other debris.
  • Run a damp mop over the area to remove any oil, grease and other foreign substances that may complicate installation. Then, let the floor dry completely.
  • Remove the rubber flooring interlocking tiles from its packaging, and let them sit on the sub floor 24 hours prior to installation. This allows the tiles to stabilize to the ambient temperature of the area, ensuring a straightforward installation and a consistent end product.
    • Rubber Flooring Expert Tip #1: To preempt the possibility of a strong rubber odor, wipe the tiles with a damp cloth. Then, let the tiles air out by placing them outdoors for two to three hours. This allows some of the rubber smell to dissipate.
Installation:
1.       Start by inserting the plastic connector pins into the pre-drilled slots on two adjacent sides of each tile. Use your hand to press the
o    Rubber Flooring Expert Tip #2: Stack the rubber tiles in piles of five to ten pieces. Now, begin to insert the connector pins into the slots of adjacent sides while the tiles are in a pile. This makes it much easier to insert the pins and also saves plenty of time.
2.       Take one of the tiles, and place it in the corner of the area you intend to cover. Make sure that the plastic connector pins that are inserted in the tile point along the perimeter of the area.
3.       Grab another tile, and align the connector pins of the first tile with the pre-drilled slots of the second tile.
o    Rubber Flooring Expert Tip #3: If you are setting up the rubber flooring interlocking tiles in a room, position the tiles as close to the wall as possible. The wall acts as a guide, and the plastic pins and slots will naturally align.
4.       Slide the second tile towards the first tile so that the pins enter slot. Push the tiles together with your hand as far as you can. When you begin to feel resistance, use a rubber mallet to carefully tap the second tile towards the first to seal the gap.
o    Rubber Flooring Expert Tip #4: To avoid damaging the tile with the rubber mallet, hit the tile at an angle towards the other tile. Try not to hit the same exact spot on the tile, as this may damage the tile.
5.       Continue to work down the first row until you reach the corner on the opposite wall or border, and then move on to subsequent rows until the entire area is covered. If you need to cut a tile to fit in the remaining area of a row, continue to step 6. If not, skip to step 12.
6.       To trim a tile to fit, first measure the length of the remaining floor that needs to be covered with measuring tape. Note this number in your head.
o    Rubber Flooring Expert Tip #5: To ensure a more accurate measurement, lay the measuring tape along the surface of the tile that is adjacent to the uncovered area and extend it towards the wall or border.
7.       Now, take the tile you will be trimming, turn it upside down, and mark the tile using chalk at the measurement you took earlier for the uncovered area.
8.       Hold a straight edge across the marks you made, and snap a line across the length of the tile. Follow this line to cut the tile.
9.       Grab your utility knife and run it down the chalk line, using the straight edge as a guide. Run the utility knife several times through the tile to make a score line.
o    Rubber Flooring Expert Tip #6: Trimming rubber tiles is in no way like cutting butter or a gelatin dessert! Be patient, as a hasty cut may damage the tile. It may help to lubricate the knife with a solution of water and soap before cutting.
10.    Grab the rubber tile close the score line and bend the tile towards yourself in a tearing motion. This allows the score line to “break open.
11.    Run the utility knife down the score line to complete the cut. Connect the trimmed pieces to the uncovered areas. Make sure you proceed slowly an with safety in mind. The utility knife need be sharp and proceeding with caution is highly suggested.
12.    Voila! Your rubber flooring is ready to rock! Dust off your hands, and treat yourself to a nice, cold glass of lemonade.
